I used to be radio famous in Manila. Nowadays I just trawl cyberspace.
Welcome to my Tumblr.
Catching Elephant is a theme by Andy Taylor
Kyera and I have lived within a ten mile radius — at two separate times during our almost two years here in Nashville — from K & S World Market on Nolensville Pike, but only went there for the first time tonight.
We had heard from Filipino friends about the incredible ethnically diverse choices from sauces, to drinks, to meats, and produce, and everything in between.
But we’ve stayed away, choosing WalMart and Kroger and Publix and Whole Foods instead.
Maybe we miss Manila more than we realize because today I got a sudden craving for adobo (soy sauce, vinegar, and garlic based stew with chicken), menudo (tomato and potato stew with beef), and lumpia (wanton wrapped ground pork).
We walked in and were instantly assaulted by the overwhelming scent of fresh fish, the large freezers filled with chicken feet, and animal parts you won’t find at WalMart.
And then we found the freezer section, and the sauces, and the potato chips. From everywhere but here.
We’ll be back, K & S.
